Scams are on the rise and technology is making it easier for fraudsters to get away with it, with criminals becoming increasingly expert at impersonating people, organisations and the police.  

In this section, we share information, security tips and fraud-prevention guidance to help you understand what tools we use to keep you safe, and how to avoid falling victim to fraud and scams. 

Remember, the more you do to keep your accounts safe, the more protection you’ll have if you become a victim of fraud. 

Even the savviest person can be tricked into revealing security details or sending money to a criminal’s account, especially when they may be distracted by other concerns or stresses.  

 

Just take five…

It’s important to confidently Take five minutes to stop and think to protect you and your money: stop, challenge, protect. 

  • Stop: Take a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information. It could keep you safe. 
  • Challenge: Could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you. 
  • Protect: Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve been scammed and report it to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk or on 0300 123 20.
